Floris Boere playing keyboard standing on stage during a concert

Hi! Welcome to RemotePianoClasses.com. My name is Floris and I have been teaching piano and keyboard for almost twenty years. I graduated from the Utrecht Conservatory and earned a master's degree in jazz piano from New York University (NYU). I have performed on many international stages with bands, singer-songwriters, and as a solo artist.
One of my greatest passions is teaching. Through live Zoom video lessons, you can learn directly on your own keyboard or piano right from the comfort of home. Adults and kids alike are very welcome to sign up — whether you've never touched a key, haven't played in years, or are simply looking for fresh inspiration. Child playing keyboard during an online piano lesson

More than just music

Music lessons are one of the finest gifts you can give your child. It also helps with schoolwork. Research by psychologist Glenn Schellenberg (University of Toronto) shows that children who take piano lessons score better on IQ tests. They perform better in school because their focus improves as well. Seeing your child master something new through practice teaches them that hard work can overcome any challenge.

What can your child expect in a lesson?

A relaxed atmosphere with a friendly teacher over live video on Zoom. As a parent, you are welcome to sit in as well without having to drive anywhere. We start the lesson by discussing homework. Was anything difficult? Then I ask them to play a bit of what they practiced. They often recognize what went well and what didn't on their own. Next, I explain some music theory and focus on good hand posture and seating posture. After that, we practice the tricky parts together. You can also get a recording of the lesson so your child can rewatch helpful parts when practicing.

What do I expect from you as a parent?

Mainly involvement and encouragement. Your child's piano playing improves most when they practice at home on their own instrument between lessons, even if it's just 15 minutes a day. This works best when tied to a routine, such as right after school or before dinner. You don't need to be able to read music yourself to be able to help. Simply listening and encouraging makes a world of difference already.

What can you expect in a lesson?

My lessons with adult students revolve around what you want to learn. It could be a soundtrack of a movie, a song by Olivia Rodrigo or Elton John, blues, jazz, improvisation, or writing your own music. For beginners, we start with the essentials: reading sheet music, playing chords, and fundamental music theory. We also work on ear training. Lessons move entirely at your own pace with flexible scheduling choices (weekly, biweekly, or monthly) and video recordings sent to you after class for easy practice reference.

What students say.

Portrait of piano teacher Floris Boere

After graduating from Utrecht conservatory and NYU, I spent ten years performing and working as a musician in New York City. I have been teaching piano for nearly twenty years to students of all ages through interactive online lessons. I've played with bands ranging from jazz and pop to yacht rock, afrobeat, and funk. I bring that diverse background into my lessons because my piano students play a wide range of music genres.

My core belief is simple: music should never feel like work. It isn't about reaching unrealistic far away goals, but about discovering the joy of creating the music yourself. I've watched seven-year-olds grow into confident musicians and seen adults reignite a long-lost passion from their own living rooms. That's so inspiring. That is why I love what I do.

In addition to teaching, I am active as a pianist, composer, and producer. My music has received millions of streams through platforms like Spotify and Youtube. These skills I will gladly integrate into lessons for anyone curious about songwriting or music production. So if you're interested in writing, mixing, mastering or publishing, I can help you with that too!

How do online piano lessons work?

We meet live over Zoom. You play on your own keyboard or piano at home and you put your laptop, iPad or phone close to you. I don't need to be able to see your hands. You can choose flexible lesson frequency (weekly, biweekly, monthly) and even get recordings of your lessons to review during practice.

How do I schedule a free trial lesson?

By sending a message via WhatsApp or filling out the contact form at the bottom of the page. I reply quickly, and we can set up a time together.

Can I get recordings of my lessons?

Yes! Every lesson can be recorded and sent to you so you can easily reference specific exercises or songs while practicing on your own.

Does my child (or do I) need prior experience to start?

Not at all. Most students start as complete beginners!

How old do you have to be to start?

Children can start from age 8. For adults, there is no upper limit — it is truly never too late. My oldest piano student is 78 and enjoys it immensely!

I have a keyboard at home, not an acoustic piano — is that okay?

Absolutely. Playing on your home keyboard or digital piano is perfect for online lessons. What you learn is very similar, so a home keyboard is great to start with.

How much practice is required?

It depends on how fast you want to progress, but aiming for at least 15 minutes a day will help you master songs more quickly. The most important thing is to keep it fun. Progress comes naturally when you enjoy the process.

I don't have an instrument yet. Which keyboard should I buy?

I am happy to help you choose a suitable option within your budget. Feel free to send a message via the contact form.

Do you also teach music theory?

Yes! Theory is normally introduced step-by-step alongside the songs you play, but we can also focus specifically on theory lessons if you'd like.

Do you give classical music lessons?

My expertise lies in contemporary music genres — Pop, Rock, Singer-Songwriter, Blues, Jazz, Latin, and modern styles. While we can include classical pieces, if you are looking for pure classical training, I am happy to refer you to a specialized classical teacher.

Can I listen to your own music?

Yes! My music is streaming everywhere, including Spotify, YouTube, Apple Music, and Tidal.
